Circulating Zero: Reimagining Automotive Waste

Commissioned for Greenhouse 2024 in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz Singapore, this project explored how discarded automotive components could be reimagined into functional and sculptural pieces.

Working with accident damaged and surplus parts from the Mercedes workshop, we transformed materials that would otherwise be considered waste into a collection of objects for the event space. A catalytic converter became a vase, tail lights were repurposed into pendant lighting, spark plugs and hardware formed a chess set, while brake discs found new life as a floor lamp.

Beyond the individual pieces, the project challenged us to look beyond the original purpose of each component and uncover new possibilities within familiar materials. Every object carried traces of its previous life while contributing to a new narrative around circularity, craftsmanship and design.

As interior designers, we are often tasked with shaping spaces. This collaboration allowed us to extend that thinking to objects, exploring how thoughtful design can transform overlooked materials into pieces that spark conversation and invite a second life.

The result was a collection that reflected the spirit of the event’s theme, “Circulating Zero”, demonstrating that value can be found not only in new materials, but also in what already exists around us.
